Purpose-Driven Dog Training. Family-Raised British Labradors.
CapeWest R&T is a family-run dog training and breeding program based in Brock, Texas (35 miles West of Fort Worth).
We help busy families and recreational hunters enjoy calmer homes and more reliable dogs through structured board-and-train programs and well-bred British Labradors known for their even temperament, strong instincts, and steady disposition.
We’re Heath and Caitlin Speck, and we’ve built CapeWest R&T to feel like home—because it is.
We met in 2006 at a rodeo, where Heath—a born-and-raised Texas country boy—sat next to Caitlin, a Boston native who grew up spending her summers on Cape Cod. A few years later, we got married and welcomed our adorable son, Heath Cole Jr.
In 2020, we built a home outside the city and named it “CapeWest” to honor both sides of our story: Caitlin’s New England roots and Heath’s West Texas heritage.
What began as a personal love for dogs turned into a full-time calling. In 2016, we brought home our first British Labs, Gus and Tex. Gus went off to gun dog school, and Tex stayed home as a loyal house companion. Soon, friends and strangers alike were asking Heath for advice. “Are you a dog trainer?” became a common question at baseball games and neighborhood walks.
By 2022, we officially launched CapeWest R&T as a family-run business, built on the belief that dogs thrive best when they’re trained in the kind of environment they’ll actually live in.
Today, we raise and train British Labradors on our 2.5-acre property in Brock, Texas—with cozy indoor and outdoor kennels—and exercise and field-train on our 50 acres in nearby Graford.
We keep things small on purpose so we can give each dog the consistency and attention they deserve.

A proud moment with eight of our hand-raised British Labrador puppies—bred for calm homes and capable fields.
At CapeWest, dogs live in our home during training and are treated like family—not kept in commercial kennels.
Whether your goal is a well-mannered house dog, a companion gun dog, or a solid start on service work, we focus on structure, motivation, and long-term results.
Most of our clients come to us frustrated or overwhelmed. Their dog is wild in the house, pulling on the leash, ignoring commands, or struggling with crate training. They’re looking for more than obedience—they want peace at home and control in the field.
That's where we come in.
We use a board-and-train model, where dogs live with us for several weeks and receive hands-on, structured training throughout the day. Heath blends fieldwork with service dog training techniques to help dogs make better choices—not just comply under pressure. The result is a dog that understands boundaries, feels more confident, and becomes easier to live with.
We don’t run a high-volume kennel or pack dogs into group play. We train a limited number of dogs at a time, and we treat every one of them like our own.
Heath's approach starts with trust, not pressure—training dogs to make good choices at home and in the field.
Heath leads all training at CapeWest R&T. He trains with a calm, results-driven approach grounded in patience, consistency, and understanding each dog’s motivation. He’s constantly learning—drawing from both hunting traditions and service dog strategies to build training programs that work in real life.
Heath believes the best way to get lasting results is to live with the dog and train in the kind of environment the dog will return to.
Caitlin handles the details behind-the-scenes at CapeWest: marketing, managing the books, IT, scheduling, logistics—and making sure every dog feels loved, safe, and seen. She also keeps the family running smoothly. Originally from Boston, she didn’t grow up with dogs, but she's making up for it now.
Caitlin is the heart of the household and helps maintain the warm, home-based atmosphere CapeWest is known and loved for.
Cole helps with feeding, grooming, and socializing the dogs with neighborhood kids or during baseball games. He has a natural gift with animals, knowing when to be gentle and when to turn up the play, whether he’s tossing a ball or sitting quietly with a nervous pup.
Cole brings energy, patience, and an easygoing spirit to the CapeWest pack.
Rescued by Caitlin on a trip to the shelter (yes, she was supposed to bring home an American Lab), Pesky Pole is part clown, part security guard, and full-time supervisor of all things CapeWest. He makes sure no crumb is left behind and no squirrel crosses the perimeter unnoticed—even though the property is fully fenced.
Named after the right field foul post at Fenway Park, Pesky lives up to his name more than the structure.
Pesky may not offer much security, but he keeps the floors spotless and morale high.
